Slicer engine change: Cura cloud slicing?#9

Since the original sicer of your website is acually kinda trash (because it crashes as soon as you print a file that is over 5cm) you could use an sever which has cura on it so the files go to the sever to cura and then to the cloud to print them

Thanks for the suggestion! 🙌
Right now, using a different slicer engine is not on the table, and we’d rather work on improving our current slicer, and run it in the client is possible - especially to keep costs down, so we don’t have to lock the slicer behind paid plans, as right now it doesn’t really cost us much when you slice, but it would if we had to host a slicer engine on our servers, and it would be more internet-heavy, as the file has to be transfered to and from the server - which we’d like to avoid.

The crash issue you’re experiencing, is caused by your browser not being allowed enough memory… There are new technologies on the way, that will allow for more power given to your browser, which is gonna help a lot!

The main issue is rendering the model, and we’re working on doing this in more memory-efficient ways - and slicing in the cloud sadly wouldn’t change this.

We invite you to use any slicer you’d like, and I’m sad to hear if our slicer isn’t working very well for you right now! We’re always working on improving the platform and the slicer.
