The Problem:
Currently, filament selection relies heavily on visual color swatches. While this looks great, it becomes a major bottleneck for professional users or teams handling a large variety of custom filaments.
Distinguishing between similar profiles like “Black-Red,” “Black-Red-Gold,” or “Red-Gold” based solely on a tiny color box is prone to error. It requires the operator to know every profile by heart, which makes training new employees difficult and leads to avoidable misprints.
The Solution:
I suggest adding a toggle or an alternative view for the filament selection: A clean, alphabetical text-based list.
Key Features:
Priority on Text: The profile name should be the primary identifier, not the color box.
Alphabetical Sorting: Makes it much faster to scan and find specific custom profiles.
Optional Swatches: Keep the color boxes only as small, redundant indicators next to the text, or remove them entirely in this view.
Search-Friendly: A list format is much easier to navigate via search or quick-scrolling.
Why this matters:
This change would significantly improve workflow reliability for “power users” and businesses. It reduces the “guessing game” when picking filaments and makes onboarding new staff much smoother.
I was actually considering a custom API/Script workaround for this, but I believe a native “List View” option would be a massive quality-of-life improvement for the entire SimplyPrint community!
