Add users to Basic and Pro tier plans#565
It’d be nice to have limited access to multiple users in these plans. This is a pretty low-priority one, but I think it’s worth considering as part of the larger pricing and packaging points I’m making in these suggestions.
In my use-case, I have an adult son that I’d like to allow to use my printer in a reasonably limited sense. I.e. I don’t want to allow full admin access, but being able to send things to the printer and monitor it, see available filament, etc.
I have a granddaughter that’s really excited about 3dprinting, and I’d love to have a super-restricted account that would let her have a read-only view of the printer and its activity.
Instead of the full scope of what you can do at FARM tier, maybe Basic and Pro get three predefined roles that can each be assigned to a single user. One Admin (the owner), one Write user that can be invited, and one Read user. Maybe Pro gets some additional ability to control what “write” privileges get granted for the write user?
This again gives someone a clear growth path for scaling it if they’re trying to build a business. It’s there now, but the leaps are jarring.
Today we’ve launched an update of our pricing. We’ve added some more plans for single-tool use. We’ve added some advanced features like AutoPrint to the Pro plan, so it’s not all gated by the print farm tier.
At this point, we won’t be adding multiple users and extra users to other plans. That is something we are not touching, so I’m not able to mark this as completed and say that we’ve directly addressed this. We have addressed the overall feeling that many are having, that it’s hard to find a plan specifically for me or you because SimplyPrint is so big and we have so many different users of different types.
We have:
- hobbyists
- kids
- adults
- grandparents
- professional print farms
- enterprise
- schools who have maker spaces
- governments
- the military
It’s hard to create a one-size-fits-all when it’s such a big platform with so many different users and so many features. Some come to us just for the filament manager. Others come just for the slicer. Some come for everything. Some come just for the printer management and couldn’t care less about the slicer and other things. Some want an extra account for a loved one or a family member.
Again, we are not 100% addressing specifically what you’re asking for here, but Pro now includes AutoPrint, and our single-tool plans will also be addressing some of what this suggestion also speaks a little bit to.
