view the image of the slicer by layer during print#360

I am learning 3d printing. I find the layer by layer view in the slicer very helpful in understaing how my stl file will print, but once I click over to the printer while printing is active, the image on the slicer grid disappears after toggling back to it. I cannot review what each layer looks like and compare it to the layer that is actually printing. This would be helpful when figuring out where the issue is in failed prints and at what layer the issue occurred.
