We run an on-demand shop so we’re swapping out filament fairly constantly. We have just relied on not tagging printers other than the nozzle size. We’ve disabled verification for material checked and items are just started from the Print Queue.
My technians don’t really have time to go around and select each printer and tag them correctly with the right filament and color. We make use of bulk macros for unloading and loading when we can, but from our perspective its easier to look at the print queue and start prints from there. We don’t use the filament system or the 1-Click print currently.
What would really solve this problem and acutally don’t think its a lot of work to implement would be the ability to override the settings when starting the tagged gcode files.
From our perspective this is how we start prints on the day-to-day
1) Remove prints from printers into bins
2) Go through the print queue and start and prints that have existing materials loaded if there are not any due dates that require us to swap materials out
3) Run a bulk macro or mass-unload machines
4a) Look at the print queue
4b) Load in material required for various queue items one at a time
4c) Start the prints from the UI
The only thing this feature really solves is saves us the human error factor, and time to manually go and select the filament loaded into each machine (Which we just don’t have time to do).
The main imporant values we gain by doing this is the following
A) We can now look from the web UI what filament and colors are loaded at a glance remoetly or from another room. (Useful for starting prints remotly)
B) We may be able to make use of 1-Click now that materials and colors are synced.
